When it comes to silk, Thai silk has been known to be one of the world’s finest, and this notion was highlighted again in Chiang Mai Design Week 2018 which featured a special fashion show entitled Thai Silk Couture.
To support the Thai silk industry, one of the creative industries that has seen constant growth, DITP Chiang Mai, together with DITP under the Ministry of Commerce, hosted this exhibition and fashion show featuring 25 haute couture-inspired gowns made of Thai silk. Designed by Thai designer Tipayaphong Poosanaphong, this collection was inspired by the gowns of Queen Sirikit, and used various high fashion techniques like draping, embroidering and painting. This exhibition and showcase not only highlighted the new facets of Thai silk, but also unveiled the potentials of Thai silk in an international arena and encouraged the makers in the silk industry to be proud of their works.
