Chiang Mai rises as a design hub with Chiang Mai Design Week

For several years, it has been a pilgrimage up north for designers and design enthusiasts, since Chiang Mai Design Week has been held annually at the end of the year.

Chiang Mai Design Week is a design festival held together by public and private sectors led by Thailand Creative & Design Center Chiang Mai. The first regional design event of its kind, the festival features numerous exhibitions, seminars, installations and workshops, with the venues scattering around the city of Chiang Mai. For the last edition held between 11-16 December 2018, Chiang Mai Design Week boasted more than 200 activities.

As an event to support the government’s Creative Economy policy, Chiang Mai Design Week aims to encourage local designers to add values to their products with creativity and local heritage. But why Chiang Mai? May be because the city of Chiang Mai has been a center of traditional crafts for so long, and it is now to go one step further. And no surprise that the event has actually received positive feedback from local brands. Apart from being an art city, may be Chiang Mai is ready to be a contemporary design city as well.
